Chris Koon Declares for PBA Draft After Leading Role at Ateneo
Chris Koon, a key figure in Ateneo de Manila University’s men’s basketball program, is officially set to enter the 2025 PBA Draft. His agent, Marvin Espiritu of EMBM, confirmed that Koon will be among this year’s draft class, signaling the next step in his basketball career after completing his collegiate eligibility in UAAP Season 87.
Koon’s journey at Ateneo was defined by steady growth, leadership, and adaptability. In his final year with the Blue Eagles, he averaged 7.6 points and 4.2 rebounds per game while serving as co-captain of a youthful roster. With many of Ateneo’s veterans having graduated, Koon became a stabilizing presence despite dealing with an ankle injury, offering guidance to rookies and maintaining consistency on both ends of the floor.
His final season followed a strong showing in UAAP Season 86, where he led Ateneo in minutes and contributed across multiple statistical categories. Though the team faced challenges throughout Season 87, including a slow start, Koon’s contributions remained critical.
Earlier this year, Koon began testing professional waters when he joined Strong Group Athletics for the 34th Dubai International Basketball Championship. Competing internationally gave him a chance to showcase his versatility and basketball IQ, honed under Ateneo’s structured system led by Coach Tab Baldwin. Coach Charles Tiu of SGA praised Koon for his size, shooting, and defensive ability — qualities that now position him well as a draft prospect.
Koon is set to return too the Philippines on August 27.
With his name now officially in the PBA Draft pool, Koon enters the next chapter as a seasoned, well-rounded player who has proven he can lead, adapt, and perform under pressure. His experience in a championship-caliber college program and recent international exposure adds depth to a draft class looking for both talent and readiness.
As teams evaluate prospects for the upcoming season, Koon’s leadership pedigree could make him one of the more intriguing names on the board.
