Dave Ildefonso Joins Abra Weavers in MPBL

In a significant move within Philippine basketball, Dave Ildefonso has officially signed with the Abra Weavers of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL). League sources confirmed to ALL-STAR Magazine that Ildefonso’s contract extends through the upcoming season, and he has already commenced practice sessions with the team.

Ildefonso’s decision to join the Weavers comes after an imperfect negotiation period with his Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) team, NorthPort Batang Pier. Selected as the fifth overall pick in the 2024 PBA Draft, Ildefonso was offered a contract by NorthPort. However, the two parties struggled to reach a mutual agreement, leading to a stalemate that persisted into the start of the PBA season. Reports indicated that salary expectations and contract terms were central to the impasse.

In a previous exclusive interview with ALL-STAR Magazine, Ildefonso expressed his side of the story. You can read about it here.

The Abra Weavers have been active in strengthening their roster ahead of the new MPBL season. Notably, they have secured the services of former De La Salle Green Archer Joshua David, who recently concluded a commendable collegiate career.

David’s addition, along with other key signings, underscores the Weavers’ commitment to building a competitive team. His Green Archers teammate CJ Austria is also expected to join the squad, along with Encho Serrano, Jack Cruz-Dumont and Filipino-foreigner Kascius Small-Martin.

Ildefonso’s integration into the Weavers is anticipated to have a substantial impact, given his versatile skill set and experience from both local and international play. He recently suited up for Strong Group Athletics in the Dubai Invitational Tournament.

As the MPBL season approaches, fans and analysts alike will be keen to observe how these strategic acquisitions translate into on-court performance for Abra.
