Filipino-American point guard Lian Ramiro has signed with the Hanoi Buffaloes ahead of the 2025 Vietnam Basketball Association (VBA) season, marking a significant step forward in his professional basketball career. After a notable run in both U.S. college basketball and the Philippine collegiate scene, Ramiro now takes his talents to Vietnam’s premier basketball league.
Standing 5’11”, Ramiro first made waves in Colorado, where he was born and raised. He played three standout seasons at Colorado State University Pueblo, scoring over 1,000 career points and earning All-RMAC honors twice. In 2023, he transferred to the University of Arkansas–Fort Smith (UAFS), where he averaged 11.2 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game – demonstrating his consistency and floor leadership.
Ramiro’s next move took him overseas in 2024, joining the De La Salle University (DLSU) Green Archers in the UAAP as a one-and-done graduate player. With the departure of veteran guards Evan Nelle and Mark Nonoy, Ramiro was brought in to provide stability and experience. He played a key role in helping DLSU reach the UAAP Season 87 Finals, ultimately finishing with a silver medal. Beyond his contributions on the court, he earned praise for his professionalism and quick integration into the team culture, calling his time with DLSU a “one-of-one” brotherhood experience.
Now, Ramiro begins his professional journey with the Hanoi Buffaloes, one of the VBA’s most competitive teams. Coached by Matt Van Pelt, the Buffaloes are looking to bounce back from a semifinals exit in 2024 and contend for the title this season. Ramiro joins a talented roster featuring Devin Peterson, the league’s 2024 assist leader, Ruot Monyyong, who dominated the boards and blocks last season, and Hassan Thomas, the reigning Most Valuable Heritage Player.
With his blend of scoring ability, leadership, and international experience, Ramiro is expected to bring immediate impact to the Buffaloes’ backcourt. His addition adds depth and playmaking to a team already rich in talent and ambition.
The 2025 VBA season kicked off on May 16 and runs through August 31. The Buffaloes are set to face the Da Nang Dragons in back-to-back games on May 23 and 25, with their home opener against the V Islanders on May 30.
Many will look at Hanoi as Lian Ramiro takes the next step in his basketball journey – this time on the VBA stage.
