Jhazmin Joson Joins Joondalup Wolves for NBL1 West Season

Filipino basketball standout Jhazmin Joson is taking the next big step in her career, officially signing with the Joondalup Wolves for the upcoming NBL1 West season. The move marks another significant milestone for the Gilas Pilipinas Women’s star, as she continues to build her professional career in Australia.

Joson, who played a key role for the Ateneo Blue Eagles in the UAAP, has been one of the rising stars of Philippine women’s basketball. She previously suited up for the Goldfields Giants, making her NBL1 debut earlier last year. Now, she joins a Joondalup squad known for its competitive edge and consistent playoff contention in the NBL1 West.

Speaking exclusively to ALL-STAR Magazine, Joson expressed her excitement about the new opportunity.

“I’m really excited about joining the Joondalup Wolves and taking the next step in my career. It feels like a big opportunity to grow as a player, and I’m eager to contribute to the team and improve my game on this bigger stage.”

The Wolves, often referred to as the “Wolfpack,” have established themselves as one of the top programs in NBL1 West, reaching the grand final in 2021 and consistently making deep postseason runs. With her ability to play both guard positions, Joson is expected to add depth and versatility to Joondalup’s backcourt.

Her signing also strengthens the growing presence of Filipino players in Australian basketball, particularly in the NBL1, where several talents from the Philippines have made their mark. Joson has already proven herself on the international stage, averaging 5.6 points and 1 rebound per game during the 2023 FIBA Women’s Asia Cup Division A, including a standout 15-point performance against New Zealand.

Her manager, Miguel Alegre of Bridge Sports Global, shared insights on how the deal came together:

When we signed Jhaz earlier this month we made a commitment to growing her career globally. Joining the Joondalup Wolves for the upcoming NBL1 season is the first step to achieving our goals for Jhaz and we couldn’t be happier for her.”

With the season approaching, all eyes will be on Joson as she embarks on this exciting new chapter in her career. Filipino basketball fans can expect to work hard for a chance to make an immediate impact with the Wolves, continuing her journey as one of the country’s most promising hoopers on the international stage.
