Kojima Announces ‘Death Stranding 2’ Release Date at SXSW

Hideo Kojima took the stage at SXSW 2025 to unveil new details about Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, including its official release date: June 26, 2025. Fans also got a first look at a new pre-order trailer, directed by Kojima himself, ahead of pre-orders going live on March 17.

The sequel follows the massive success of Death Stranding, which launched in 2019 to critical acclaim. The original game, known for its innovative “Strand” gameplay system and deeply emotional narrative, won multiple awards, including Best Game Direction at The Game Awards. With over five million copies sold worldwide, Death Stranding built a passionate fanbase, drawn to its unique blend of open-world exploration, asynchronous multiplayer mechanics, and thought-provoking themes about connection and isolation.

A New Chapter in the Death Stranding Universe

Building on the foundation of its predecessor, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach aims to expand the lore, introduce new gameplay mechanics, and push the boundaries of interactive storytelling. The game reunites players with Sam Porter Bridges (Norman Reedus) and a returning cast, while also introducing new characters and locations.

Death Stranding 2 Concert Series Announced

Kojima Productions also announced a special Stranding Harmony concert series, featuring orchestral performances of music from the Death Stranding universe. The tour begins on November 8, 2025, at the Sydney Opera House, with additional dates planned worldwide.

To celebrate the announcement, Kojima Productions released a set of new screenshots, offering a fresh look at Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. With its ambitious vision, deep storytelling, and legacy of innovation, the sequel is shaping up to be one of 2025’s most anticipated releases.
