Pacquiao to Receive Honorary Doctorate in PE and Sports From PNU

Eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao is set to receive an honorary doctorate in Physical Education and Sports from the Philippine Normal University (PNU).

PNU said the honor recognizes Pacquiao’s contributions to Philippine sports and the inspiration his journey has provided to generations of Filipinos.

“Pacquiao’s contribution to Philippine sports is bigger than his victories. His greatest legacy lies in what his journey has come to represent,” the university said in an official announcement on Wednesday.

Pacquiao rose from poverty in General Santos City to become the only boxer in history to win world titles across eight weight divisions. His career helped elevate Philippine boxing on the international stage and inspired generations of Filipino athletes.

Beyond boxing, Pacquiao has also been involved in public service and philanthropic initiatives focused on areas such as education, health, livelihood, and community development.

PNU said Pacquiao’s journey reflects values cultivated through physical education and sports, including discipline, perseverance, courage, and excellence.

The honorary degree was endorsed by the PNU Academic Council and Board of Regents and subsequently approved by the Commission on Higher Education through CEB Resolution No. 625-2026.

The conferment ceremony will be held at the PNU Manila Quadrangle on Wednesday, September 16 at 4 p.m.
