Quiambao ahead of UAAP MVP race, Bahay leads rookies

Reigning UAAP MVP Kevin Quimbao is on pace to repeat as league Most Valuable Player more than halfway through the first round of the UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball tournament.
According to local statistician Johann Medina, who shares his work on X, the DLSU superstar has 90.25 statistical points following four games, well ahead of UP’s JD Cagulangan who’s at second with 78.
Michael Phillips, who’s also from DLSU, is at number three with 70.25, while foreign student athletes Precious Momowei of UE and Mo Tounkara of UST round off the top with 60 statistical points each.
FEU’s Mo Konateh is sixth with 57.25 SPs, UST’s Nic Cabañero is seventh at 56.25, UST’s Forth Padrigao is eighth at 55.75, NU’s Jake Figueroa is ninth at 52.5, and UP’s Quentin Millora-Brown finalizes the top 10 at 52.250.
As of right now, the Mythical 5 is: Quiambao, Cagulangan, Phillips, Momowei, and Cabañero. Only one FSA is awarded as part of the mythical team.
As far as the race for Rookie of the Year, Ateneo’s Jared Bahay is leading the pack with 46.25 SPs, which also ranks 15th overall in the league. FEU’s Veejay Pre is behind him with 41 SPs, while UP’s Jacob Bayla rounds out the top three at 38.5 SPs.
The UAAP utilizes a statistical formula taking a player’s production on the court into equation to come up with the statistical points.
