The road to the PBA Governors’ Cup title, the last one of the PBA’s 50th season, is about to begin, with every team entering the conference carrying its own set of questions, expectations, and pressure.

July 10, 2026, Friday

Dyip bully Titan on the boards, 113-100

Terrafirma opened the Governors’ Cup by finding production from exactly where it needed it most, with import Justin Strings putting up 25 points and 16 rebounds and Geo Chiu delivering a career night of 19 points and 23 boards in a 113-100 win over an import-less Titan Ultra side. The Dyip, adjusting after the departures of Jerrick Ahanmisi and Paolo Hernandez, had six players in double figures and absolutely owned the glass, 94-52, including 40 offensive rebounds that came just two short of Tanduay’s old 1980 All-Filipino record. Titan still made it uncomfortable, even taking a 37-33 lead and staying within 89-87, but Terrafirma’s size and second-chance pressure eventually wore the Giant Risers down.

Alapag era begins with NLEX rout, 114-75

Jimmy Alapag’s first official game as NLEX head coach looked almost too smooth for an opening night, with the Road Warriors blasting Macau, 114-75, behind a balanced, unselfish performance that produced 30 assists and minutes for all 16 players. DeQuan Jones set the tone with 23 points and 11 rebounds, Kevin Alas added 19 in under 20 minutes off the bench, and Robert Bolick chipped in nine points, eight assists, and six rebounds as NLEX won every quarter and led by as many as 43. Macau got 35 points from Damien Chongqui and 26 points with 15 rebounds from De’Vondre Perry, but the rest of the Giant Pandas combined for just 14 points, making Alapag’s return from his NBA player-development stint with Sacramento feel like a statement start.

July 11, 2026, Saturday

Barkley flips the Rain or Shine script, 131-108

Blackwater didn’t just beat Rain or Shine; the Bossing turned a recent humiliation into a proper payback game, hammering the Elasto Painters, 131-108, months after absorbing a 151-95 loss to the same team in the Commissioner’s Cup. Kentrell Barkley was the story in his PBA debut, finishing with a triple-double of 29 points, 15 rebounds, and 10 assists, while Sedrick Barefield added 24, RK Ilagan had 22, and Dalph Panopio scored 19 in a game Blackwater controlled from the jump. The win mattered beyond opening-night confidence too: it was only Blackwater’s second victory over Rain or Shine in 17 meetings since 2019, and in a tight Group B race, that kind of head-to-head swing could age well.

BJ Johnson sparks Phoenix comeback, 98-86

Phoenix looked in trouble when Magnolia built a 44-28 lead in the second quarter, but BJ Johnson turned his PBA debut into a takeover, finishing with 34 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Fuel Masters to a 98-86 comeback win. Johnson scored 15 in the second period to drag Phoenix back into the game, then added 11 more after halftime as the Fuel Masters flipped the night with a 49-33 second-half surge. Jason Perkins backed him up with 23 points, Tyler Tio hit a late three to keep Magnolia at bay, and the Hotshots wasted a 20-point game from Zavier Lucero as import KJ Buffen spent too much of the night battling foul trouble before eventually fouling out

NLEX nearly collapses, but escapes Terrafirma, 101-100

NLEX looked headed for another smooth Group A win when it carried a 90-67 lead into the fourth quarter, but Terrafirma turned what should have been garbage time into a real scare, outscoring the Road Warriors 33-11 in the final period before falling just short, 101-100. DeQuan Jones still powered NLEX with 30 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and three blocks, though he cooled off badly after a 25-point first half, while Robert Bolick added 12 points and seven assists in Jimmy Alapag’s second straight win as Road Warriors head coach. The Dyip nearly stole it behind Ahanmisi and Juami Tiongson, who scored 19 apiece, and Justin Strings, who had 18 points, 13 rebounds, and six assists, but Strings missed a hurried three in the final seconds and Geo Chiu’s offensive rebound came too late for a follow-up. NLEX moved to 2-0 and took the early Group A lead, but this one felt less like a statement and more like a warning about closing games properly.

Converge opens with defensive beatdown, 105-74

Converge wasted no time making its Governors’ Cup debut feel like a reset, crushing an import-less Titan Ultra side, 105-74, in a game that was practically decided by halftime. The FiberXers held the Giant Risers to just nine points in the first quarter, led 50-26 at the break, and kept stretching the gap behind a balanced attack led by Jalen Hudson’s 20 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and four steals, with Archie Concepcion adding 16 off the bench and Justin Arana putting in 14. Titan, still waiting on James Milton’s FIBA clearance, got 14 points each from Fran Yu and Brian Sajonia but never found enough offense to make it competitive, falling to 0-2 after also losing its opener to Terrafirma. For Converge, which missed the playoffs in the previous Commissioner’s Cup, this was exactly the kind of clean opening performance it needed in a crowded Group A race.

Road Warriors roll to 3-0 behind Winston’s breakout, 135-100

NLEX continued to look like the conference’s early standard-bearer, steamrolling Titan Ultra, 135-100, for its third straight win and another offensive clinic under first-year head coach Jimmy Alapag. This time it was Schonny Winston who stole the spotlight, exploding for 30 points, nine rebounds, and six assists while shooting 11-of-16 from the field, as the Road Warriors led by as many as 40 points and eclipsed the 130-point mark for the second time in three games. Robert Bolick orchestrated the attack with 12 assists to go along with eight points, DeQuan Jones added 18 points and 10 rebounds, and NLEX piled up 36 assists on 56 made field goals in another display of its depth and pace. Titan Ultra, still searching for its first win, got 22 points from Fran Yu but dropped to 0-3 after once again struggling to keep up with one of Group A’s hottest teams.

Beermen shake off rust, bury Macau behind Perez, 123-109

San Miguel finally opened its Governors’ Cup campaign in style, pulling away in the second half for a 123-109 victory over Macau to begin its bid for another title on the right foot. CJ Perez wasted no time looking like a player coming off another dominant season, pouring in 31 points while Torren Jones made an immediate impact in his Beermen debut with 29 points and 15 rebounds. Macau stayed within striking distance for much of the night behind De’Vondre Perry and Damien Chongqui, but San Miguel’s experience and firepower eventually took over as the Beermen seized control after halftime. For Leo Austria’s squad, it was a familiar formula—elite transition offense, balanced scoring, and a reminder that despite the influx of new imports and contenders, San Miguel remains one of the conference’s biggest measuring sticks.

Converge Survives Terrafirma Rally to Stay Unbeaten

Converge remained unbeaten in the PBA Season 50 Governors’ Cup after fending off a furious Terrafirma comeback for a 105-103 victory at Smart Araneta Coliseum. Justin Arana powered the FiberXers with 31 points and 10 rebounds, while Justine Baltazar added a double-double of 16 points and 14 rebounds, highlighted by a game-saving block on Aljon Mariano in the closing seconds. Juan Gomez de Liano chipped in 19 points as Converge overcame an off night from import Jalen Hudson, while Justin Strings erupted for 40 points, 11 rebounds, and five assists for the Dyip, who dropped to 1-2 despite another spirited comeback effort.

Phoenix Holds Off Import-less Meralco for Second Straight Win

Phoenix improved to 2-0 in the PBA Season 50 Governors’ Cup after surviving a late Meralco rally, escaping with a 98-97 victory at Smart Araneta Coliseum. BJ Johnson led the Fuel Masters with 26 points, while Ricci Rivero added 20 and Ken Tuffin finished with 17 points, including the go-ahead free throws with 13 seconds remaining that proved to be the difference. JL delos Santos also came up with two crucial blocks on Chris Newsome in the closing minutes as Phoenix held off the import-less Bolts, who were paced by CJ Cansino’s 18 points and Brandon Bates’ 14-point, 15-rebound double-double.

Arana erupts for career-high as Converge stays perfect, 149-124

Converge continued its blistering start to the Governors’ Cup by overwhelming Macau, 149-124, behind the best offensive game of Justin Arana’s PBA career. The former Most Improved Player exploded for a career-high 39 points on an ultra-efficient 18-of-21 shooting while adding 13 rebounds, powering the FiberXers to their third straight victory and another statement performance under Franco Atienza. Macau briefly threatened after erasing a double-digit deficit to grab an 83-82 lead in the third quarter, but Converge answered with a devastating 23-4 run that effectively ended the contest. Eight FiberXers finished in double figures, including Mikey Williams (16), Jalen Hudson (15), and Justine Baltazar (13), as Converge once again showcased the league’s deepest offensive rotation. After missing the playoffs last conference, the FiberXers suddenly look every bit like a legitimate contender in Group A.

Blackwater proves it’s for real, frustrates Magnolia, 89-81

If anyone thought Blackwater’s opening-day rout of Rain or Shine was a fluke, the Bossing provided a convincing response by grinding out an 89-81 win over Magnolia to improve to 2-0. Kentrell Barkley wasn’t as explosive as in his triple-double debut, but he still delivered when it mattered most, scoring 12 of his 26 points in the fourth quarter to fend off repeated Magnolia rallies. RK Ilagan added another steady all-around effort while Blackwater’s defense held the Hotshots to just 81 points after Magnolia entered the conference as one of Group B’s favorites. The victory also marked one of Blackwater’s biggest early-season statements in years, putting the Bossing in a share of first place and giving Pat Aquino’s squad consecutive wins over two playoff-caliber opponents

San Miguel survives Terrafirma scare behind Jones’ monster debut, 112-105

San Miguel found itself in an unexpected fight, but new import Torren Jones made sure the Beermen escaped with a second straight win, finishing with 38 points and 20 rebounds in a 112-105 victory over Terrafirma. The Dyip refused to go away behind Justin Strings and Juami Tiongson, even trimming a double-digit deficit to just three points late in the fourth, before CJ Perez took over with a pair of clutch baskets to restore order. Perez added 24 points while June Mar Fajardo quietly posted another double-double, giving San Miguel enough firepower to withstand Terrafirma’s upset bid. For the Dyip, the loss dropped them to 1-2, but another competitive outing suggested they may be capable of making life difficult for every Group A contender.

Hester steadies Meralco as third-quarter surge sinks Rain or Shine, 122-114

After opening the conference without an import and losing by one to Phoenix, Meralco found its answer in emergency reinforcement Antonio Hester, who contributed 21 points and nine rebounds in a 122-114 victory over Rain or Shine. The Bolts trailed 60-54 at halftime before taking control with a 41-point third quarter, with Jason Brickman scoring nine of his 19 points during the decisive period while also finishing with seven assists and three steals. Aaron Fuller posted 28 points and 10 rebounds and Adrian Nocum added 21 points, seven assists, and four steals for the Painters, but Rain or Shine fell to 0-2 in its first game since trading longtime cornerstone Gian Mamuyac to Phoenix. The result moved Meralco to 1-1 and marked Rain or Shine’s first 0-2 conference start since the Season 48 Philippine Cup.

Undermanned TNT survives late Macau rally in conference opener, 106-103

TNT began its title-redemption bid with a narrow 106-103 win over Macau despite missing several key players and nearly surrendering a 15-point advantage in the closing minutes. Darius Days delivered 23 points, six rebounds, and three assists in his PBA debut, while Rey Nambatac matched his scoring total and added six assists to help compensate for the absences of Calvin Oftana, Poy Erram, Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser, Jayson Castro, and Kelly Williams. Roger Pogoy chipped in 21 points and appeared to give the Tropang 5G control with a late triple, but Macau answered with a 12-0 run and still had a chance to tie before Xucheng Liu’s desperation heave missed at the buzzer. De’Vondre Perry finished with 36 points and 10 rebounds for the Giant Pandas, who dropped to 0-4 despite producing their most competitive showing of the conference.

Phoenix stays unbeaten after holding off injury-hit Ginebra, 81-78

Phoenix continued its impressive start to the Governors’ Cup, surviving a late Barangay Ginebra rally for an 81-78 victory and its first 3-0 conference opening in years. Robert Johnson once again set the tone with 23 points and 11 rebounds, while Ricci Rivero added 16 points and nine boards as the Fuel Masters nearly squandered a 19-point lead before Jonathan Gray missed a potential game-winning four-pointer at the buzzer. Debuting import Riley Grigsby carried the injury-hit Kings with 42 points and 13 rebounds, but no Ginebra local reached double figures in the absence of Scottie Thompson and Justin Brownlee. The win gave Phoenix another statement result against one of the league’s traditional contenders and strengthened its early hold near the top of the standings.

Meralco survives Blackwater’s furious rally to escape with 116-114 win

Meralco nearly squandered an 18-point fourth-quarter lead but held on to defeat Blackwater, 116-114, on Tuesday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo for its second straight win in the PBA Season 50 Governors’ Cup. Antonio Hester posted 25 points and 12 rebounds, while Chris Banchero and Chris Newsome scored 16 points apiece, with Banchero finding Newsome for the go-ahead fastbreak layup with 3.9 seconds remaining after the Bossing erased a huge deficit to tie the game at 114-all. Sedrick Barefield led Blackwater with 29 points, Kentrell Barkley added 28 points and 10 rebounds, and RK Ilagan chipped in 20 points, but Ilagan’s costly turnover in the closing seconds sealed the Bossing’s collapse as both teams finished the night with identical 2-1 records in Group B.

Rain or Shine hands Phoenix first loss, breaks into win column with 105-98 victory

Rain or Shine earned its first win of the PBA Season 50 Governors’ Cup by ending Phoenix’s unbeaten run, pulling away for a 105-98 victory on Tuesday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo. Aaron Fuller dominated with 28 points and 16 rebounds, while Adrian Nocum added 18 points as the Elasto Painters led from start to finish and built a lead as large as 20 behind a much-improved defensive effort and balanced ball movement. Robert Johnson III finished with 27 points and 11 rebounds for the Fuel Masters, who trimmed the deficit to as close as one early in the fourth quarter before Rain or Shine responded to secure the win. The loss dropped Phoenix to 3-1, while Rain or Shine finally entered the win column after opening the conference with back-to-back defeats.

The PBA Governors’ Cup will then take a break from August 15 to October 6, 2026 to give way to FIBA Window 4 and the 2026 Asian Games. The pause creates a lengthy gap in the elimination round, with the league making room for the national team calendar before resuming conference play on October 7.
