Tamayo Named to KBL Best 5, Cagulangan Bags ROTY

Filipino standouts Carl Tamayo and JD Cagulangan earned top honors at the Korean Basketball League (KBL) awards night on Wednesday, April 9.
Tamayo, who averaged 15.1 points and 5.8 rebounds on 47% shooting, was named to the KBL’s Best 5 after a strong season with Changwon LG. His team finished second in the regular season standings with a 34-20 record.
Cagulangan, playing for Suwon KT, took home Rookie of the Year honors after averaging 7.3 points, 4.3 assists, and 1.5 steals. KT ended the season tied for third at 33-21.

“I feel grateful to KT’s teammates and coaching staff. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to play in the KBL,” said Cagulangan, as quoted by @baekpd1983 on X.
Both players made history as Filipino imports continuing to make an impact in one of Asia’s top basketball leagues.
Both players also won UAAP men’s basketball titles with the UP Fighting Maroons. Cagulangan, who hit the championship-sealing shot, and Tamayo won as part of the Season 84 roster, while Cagulangan propelled UP to the title once again in Season 87 last year.
