UP bests DLSU in Game 1, Moves One Win Away From UAAP Title

The UP Fighting Maroons defeated the reigning champions DLSU Green Archers in Game 1 of the UAAP Men’s Basketball Finals, 73-65, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on December 8, 2024.
Big man Quentin Millora-Brown led the team with 17 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 assists. Francis Lopez registered 13 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists, while veteran JD Cagulangan recorded 13 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists.
This win ended the Archers’ four-game winning streak against the Maroons. Despite extreme efforts, DLSU’s late-game comeback fell short.
The Archers led at the half by four but UP’s stellar defensive gameplay stifled DLSU in the final two quarters.
Kevin Quiambao had 19 points, 11 rebounds, and 1 assist, but also 6 turnovers. Mike Phillips finished with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 5 assists. EJ Gollena stepped up with 11 points and 4 rebounds.
Game 2 will commence on December 11, 2024, Wednesday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
