UP, DLSU go 1-2 in first Pinoyliga college rankings
The UP Fighting Maroons have been rewarded the top spot in the first edition of the Pinoyliga Big Dance rankings due to their undefeated slate so far in the college basketball 2024 preseason tournaments.
DLSU came in second while National University was placed in third. San Beda ranked best among all NCAA-based teams in fourth place.
UP has prevailed in all their contests in Pinoyliga (7-0) and Filoil (4-0) while DLSU is a combined 10-1, their lone loss coming at the hands of the Fighting Maroons in the latter’s season-opening main event.
NU is winless in three Filoil matchups but has won five of their seven games in Pinoyliga.
CSB (NCAA), CEU (UCAL), Lyceum (NCAA), EAC (NCAA), Mapua (NCAA), and UST (UAAP) compose the remainder of the top-10.
Interestingly competitive programs like the Letran Knights (NCAA) and Ateneo Blue Eagles (UAAP) rank 16th and 18th, respectively. The Katipunan-based team, as of posting time, hasn’t won a preseason game so far.
Another interesting observation is the low rank of CESAFI standouts University of Visayas and University of Cebu, which came in 37th and 38th, respectively.

“It’s an exciting time for Philippine college basketball as the first The Big Dance ranking is finally here,” Pinoyliga founder Benny Benitez said in a statement. “The selection committee of the Pinoyliga has put together an initial batch of college basketball programs that we feel are the 40 most competitive in the country.”
The Big Dance is an upcoming March Madness-style tournament organized by Benitez’s Pinoyliga. The rankings of the teams will determine their placing in the elimination-style competition set for August of this year.
