UP Fighting Maroons go undefeated in Serbia, Korea trip next

The UP Fighting Maroons’ impressive offseason continued during their successful trip to Serbia.

The varsity team went an undefeated 7-0 against club teams from the country: Cacak Quantox 94, Dynamic Belgrade, Lazarevac basketball, Beko Belgrade, Bc Star Novi Sad, Bc Petrovgrad Zrenjanin, and Prius Belgade Basketball. Their average winning margin was in double digits against pro and semi-pro-caliber opponents.

This recent stretch came off the heels of UP’s undefeated run in both Pinoyliga and Filoil preseason tournaments over the last few months.

The players also had training sessions with Euroleague-caliber coaches in Serbia. UP’s coaching staff stayed a few days behind after the Fighting Maroons’ departure to have their own coaching clinic with the aforementioned mentors.

Overall, the team played impressive as a whole, but individually, JD Cagulangan, Gani Stevens, and Aldous Torculas stood out, per sources.

UP is set for another offseason trip at the end of July when they fly to Korea for more training camps and tune-up contests, this time against teams from the Korean Basketball League (KBL). This could include games against Carl Tamayo’s LG, Juan Gomez De Liaño’s SK, and Javi Gomez De Liaño’s Anyang. Each player was a former Fighting Maroon.
