UST Growling Tigers Win Pinoyliga Global Invitational Cup
The UST Growling Tigers capped off a dominant run in the Pinoyliga Global Invitational Cup by defeating the UE Red Warriors, 80-71, in the finals, securing the championship with an undefeated record in the tournament.
Forthky Padrigao led the way for UST, delivering clutch shots in the final quarter to finish with 21 points and 4 assists. Nic Cabañero added 17 points and 5 rebounds, Mark Llemit chipped in 16 points, and Gelo Crisostomo contributed 13 markers. UE’s Rainer Maga paced his team with 17 points in the loss.
The victory serves as a momentum booster for the Tigers as they gear up for UAAP Season 88. UST made the Final Four last season and is now being touted as a legitimate contender for a Finals spot, having retained most of its veteran core. However, they are still awaiting the return of foreign student-athlete (FSA) Mo Tounkara, with Peter Osang filling the role in the offseason.
With their strong showing in the Pinoyliga tournament, UST looks poised to make a serious run in the upcoming collegiate season.
