Basketball fans are on the edge of their seats with NBA 2K25 just around the corner. With new enhancements, features, and game modes, excitement and anticipation fill avid-gamers. Let’s dive a little into all there is to know about what NBA 2K25 offers.
MyPlayer Builder
Gamers will have the freedom to create their own player, and they can personalize position, weight, height, wingspan, and the set of attributes of their character. The catch is that there’s a limit to the number of potential attributes one can inject into their player–you can’t have it all, not even in MyPlayer Builder.
You will also be able to see which animations qualify for your character, further allowing you to customize scrolling and playmaking moves. This helps the gamer better understand the new animations and how it will look for their own player.
MyPlayer Takeover
The Takeover system returns with 70 takeovers and 14 special abilities. The attributes that you’ve given your character will affect which takeover abilities you can equip.
Takeover also has a five-level system. Reaching the last level allows the player to activate the ability with dominance for a short time.
Badges
2K25 offers 40 badgers to players, and it goes hand-in-hand with the badge progression system. Simply put, the more you use your badge, the faster it progresses. The game also introduces a new tier to badges, Legend, and acquiring the badge will require a high set of attributes.
MyCareer
This new feature is all about “building the greatest dynasty in NBA history,” said Mike White. MyCareer allows player’s to learn about their MyPlayer’s history through a feature called The Heart of the Dynasty that showcases flashbacks, reliving the character’s most iconic games during his pre-NBA career. This includes back stories on a High School Championship, a FIBA U19 World Cup, and an Open Run with other NBA players. These stories are open to be played at any point, allowing players to choose whether they want to build their NBA dynasty or follow through the character’s story.
Dynasty Ranking
Unlike the GOAT Ranking System, the Dynasty Ranking is more focused on the skillset and achievements of the team rather than as an individual character. As your team progresses in their MyCareer, you displace other NBA teams placed in the chart. The last stop–defeat Michael Jordan’s Bulls team with 6X World Championships.
Key Games
The season is divided into two halves, each allowing you to meet with your team’s coach and select a personal goal. Whatever personal you pick will ultimately determine which key games you must win. Don’t worry as the match-up system has been balanced–you’ll only be matched up against teams within your rank. Additionally, winning key games and completing personal goals award players with new Dynasty Badges that are crucial to your team’s improvement.
Jersey Swaps
Winning the in-game challenges in Highlight Games will give you the option to swap jerseys with other NBA stars. These jerseys will be fun to collect, as you can wear them around or display them in MyCourt.
MyNBA Eras
For 2K25, players will be able to join the Curry Era too–or try to defeat them with LeBron and the Cavs. You can also revamp your league from 12-36 players and choose whichever era you want to be a part of.
MyGM
This feature allows players to choose their own back story for their character, and set their own attributes as well. You can also choose your perks that will help the team in winning games and improving NBA career.
MyGM has also been improved through incorporating conversations in decision-making. Regardless of what you decide on, you get experience points and you level up as well, earning more attributes and perk points to spend on your character.
NBACup: The In-Season Tournaments has been rebranded into the NBACup.
WNBA – Becoming The GOAT
The game added 23 GOATs for you to go against and win–play through your career, reach GOAT moments, pass all the legends, and become the GOAT yourself.
Press Conference
Your WNBA MyPlayer will now have a voice in press conferences. Animations will depend on whether you recently won or loss a game, but they assure that there will be a lot of content to love.
The WOnline
A new environment has been added to WOnline: a 3v3 court surrounded by redwoods. The feature pushes players to propel intro greatness together as a community. Every week, a stack goal will be set for community members to reach, and your contributions to hitting the goal will dictate your reward goals.
Game Changer Mentorship
Contributions to the community will help the player get Game Changer status, and this year, the Mentorship feature will enable you to mentor a new player. You’ll be in charge of giving them a challenge and a boost and simultaneously earning rewards because of additional contributions.
Auction House Returns
Players have expressed their longing for the Auction House mode in the game, and it’s back all in one menu–a whole lot smoother, better, and streamlined.
MyTeam
In MyTeam, you select a starter kit and earn a powerful card. Players will be able to choose two NBA Legend cards and set their experience level.
The feature has also been simplified, allowing users to hop on challenges or games within only the home screen. All modes are merged together in the Menu Tab, and you can track your progress in the MyTeam Rep. You can watch tips and tricks videos in the Training Hub and practice plays and scrimmages in the section.
Park Gameplay is also coming into MyTeam, and it’s set in a rooftop NBA 2K16’s Rivet City. The rooftop court also includes a glass walkway and chain nets for players to use together, or against, other NBA stars.
Triple Threat Park also offers two main game modes: Team Control and Co-Op. Team Control is simply just being able to control all three players of your team against one other gamer, while Co-Op will be 3 players in your team against 3 other players in the opposing team, controlling one playing character each. Rewards are available every day for a win, three consecutive wins, or five consecutive wins.
MyTeam also offers a one-stop shop accessible to everyone in the game. You can open card packs live in the Showcase spot, for all the other players to see, and celebrate good pulls with fireworks in the park.
MyTeam Breakout has also been brought into the game. It is a single-player, run-based mode that gives you the freedom to choose which games you want to play to earn the rewards at the edge of the board.
MyTeam also offers a Showdown, which is a competitive game for the best players. You can customize your offense and defense settings as well as your lineups and rank them in the system. Worry not because you will never rank down a tier during a season, regardless of wins or losses. Winning the games will definitely earn you a Tier One spot and be showcased in the Showdown Leaderboard.
Lastly, there’s King of the Court which is a weekend competitive event that awards elite prizes for MyTeam. Earning Tier 1 will put your name on the board, as well as 1000 VC into your wallet.
The City
The City is redesigned smaller, and more intimate to get players to their milestones quicker. The City also showcases a street called Boulevard of Stars where you can see stars representing past NBA champions. The player can add to the stars as they go along their MyCareer journey by winning banners for their own squad.
Elite vs. Rise is going to get brand-new parks. The court layout has also gotten smaller in comparison to past versions of NBA 2k which makes loading up on courts easier and navigating the city more of a breeze. Elite has a court skin which features an old worn down atmosphere with a bustling pirate scene. Fans of the franchise will also be able to play on top of and inside a pirateship inside the game.
On the other hand, the Rise park is a tad more futuristic– think Pacific Rim. Players will get the opportunity to hoop inside a mech factory, with 75-feet tall robots in construction surrounding the area.
The City also offers redesigned The Rec and The Ante-Up game modes, and the return of MyCourt, a co-op gaming mode. MyCourt can be customized based on difficulty, number of players, and others.
Proving Grounds is also making its debut in the franchise, a ranked game with 4 different modes. Top 100 Gamers within each mode will have their usernames displayed below their gamer plates, flaunting their Global rank throughout the city. The competitive play also has rewards for winners.
Another thing that has been added into the game is called The Squad Finder, allowing players to find players that have the same vibe, same mindset, and same goals to achieve as them. It is a good way to establish connections, build chemistry, as well as compete with new players.
Although it is a basketball game, the franchise is excited to introduce a karting mode called The Track. It’s a competitive play wherein winners who set the fastest lap will win 1 million VC at the end of each week.
To help out new users, they also debuted in Casual Court in the game. Beginners are going to play with only new and inexperienced players inside the game mode, kind of like a tutorial, but by experience alongside other gamers.
Chris Manning and Shakedown are making a return in the game, but as information outlets called Holo Helps. When activated, they will provide information about the buildings in The City, the difficulty levels there are, simultaneously learning which best fits you.
With all the new updates and features that NBA 2K25 has, fans are very eager to get their hands on the game again.
