Filipino-Canadian standout DJ Laconsay has officially committed to the National University (NU) Bulldogs, confirming his decision alongside his manager, Ronald Dadivas of Agent D Sports Management. The 6’5″ swingman will serve a one-year residency before making his UAAP debut in Season 89, where he will have two years of eligibility.
Laconsay has been turning heads with his athleticism and scoring ability, most recently making waves in the University, College, and Alumni League (UCAL) while playing for Manila Central University (MCU). In one of the season’s most viral moments, he threw down a thunderous poster dunk that was quickly dubbed by social media pundits as the “poster of the year.” That highlight-reel play cemented his reputation as one of the most explosive young prospects in the country, and someone who could make an impact in a higher level.
Before joining MCU, Laconsay honed his skills at Sir Charles Tupper Secondary School in Canada, where he earned MVP honors and was named to the First Team. His ability to attack the rim, stretch the floor, and defend multiple positions made him a sought-after recruit for several UAAP programs.
In the end, he chose NU for its competitive culture and player development system.
“I’m excited to join the Bulldogs and compete at the highest level of college basketball in the Philippines,” Laconsay said. “The NU program has been growing, and I want to be part of that success.”
NU has been aggressive in securing top-tier talent, and Laconsay’s commitment is a major boost to the Bulldogs’ future plans. The coaching staff sees him as a versatile piece who can contribute immediately once he becomes eligible.
While fans will have to wait until Season 89 to see him in action, expectations are already high for Laconsay’s impact on the Bulldogs.
