National University’s point guard is ready to take on a new role. The 5-foot-11 guard is open to playing more minutes this season as he sees it as a new opportunity to prove himself. Eager for new beginnings, Jumamoy looks forward to stepping up in his second season with the Bulldogs.

“siguro feeling ko magiging matured ako to handle and to lead the team and ma showcase ko dun yung kaya kong ibigay para sa team namin”

Pressure isn’t something he is worried about, instead, he is looking forward to it. He says that pressure is something evident in life and it’s just up to how you handle it. Filling in for their lost teammate, he sees this as a challenge he has to face.

“Para sa akin mas gugustuhin ko yung may pressure kasi challenge sa akin na mas gumaling ako at mag improve as a player and as a person. Mas gusto ko na kinakabahan ako papuntang game kasi mas magiging focus ako at mas aware ako sa mga ginagawa ko”

Confidence is key according to the Cebuano native. He did have to adjust to the new role but he is thankful that his teammates and coaches trusted him with the opportunity. He aims to stay consistent with staying fit and healthy for the upcoming season.

“kailangan ko lang ilead yung mga kasama ko, iorganize yung mga kasama ko, hindi na ako rookie so isipin ko na young veteran leader ako.”

A mindset like a winner. This is how he would lead his teammates to victory on the playing field. The former rookie is optimistic about how he can step up and slowly climb up that ladder. He says that ups and downs are inevitable inside his team and his optimistic outlook would be able to help them cheer up and work out their differences.

“Iniisip ko na lang na ‘ay alam ko na hindi na ako rookie, kailangan ko na mag step up, kailangan ko na yung boses ko sa loob at sa labas ng court’ at yung maging young leader lang talaga”

Trust and respect are things he holds onto. Trust he earned from his teammates and coaches. Respect for what they know he is capable of bringing to the table. He has no plans of proving them wrong. He finished his high school season back in 2023 with a bang, earning the MVP award.

“Siguro one way din is yung naearn ko yun (trust and respect) and siguro maipakita ko lang kung ano yung kaya ko and maipakita din sa kanila na mapapagkatiwalaan din ako sa loob ng court lalo na sa coaches na maguide ako and maorganize ko yung teammates ko”

He is ready for battle. The Bulldogs finished third last UAAP season 86 and Jumamoy says they are not backing down. He is working hard to help his team and plans to put nothing but their best on the court. Teamwork makes the dream work and this is how he aims to pull his team out of the woods.

“kailangan namin i-level up yung sarili namin bawat game namin kasi coming from last year, injuries from injuries to injuries. Kailangan lang namin maging healthy and ma-over-the-hump yung mga challenges at kailangan namin maging buo pa, papuntang playoffs.”
