UST Tennisters aim for a 3rd Championship title
After securing back-to-back Championships, the UST Tennisters are motivated to defend their title. With the same playing roster as last season, their game plan is simple: stick to the lineup.
Captain Nilo Ledama admitted they lacked preparation for this coming season, with only a month of training before the start of the season.
“So far, ‘yung game plan namin is stick to the lineup lang, same [as] last year. Yung preparation namin is hindi gaano ka-intense kasi nag start kami last January lang, last month.” Ledama shared in an exclusive with ALL-STAR.
Ever wonder why the UST Tennisters shout after they take their shots? It’s their way of shaking off their game nerves and boosting their confidence on the court. Despite their first-game jitters, they powered through the game with an impressive 4-1 campaign against the UE Red Warriors.
“May kaba din kasi yun nga kulang [yung preparation] and yun sa line up nag-stick lang kami,” said Ledama.
Moving forward, Ledama believed that improvement would greatly help their team in their succeeding matches. Despite the lack of preparation, they were able to show why they have been back-to-back champions. “Matagal pa naman ‘yung season, kaya pa namin mag-improve sa training at sa game,” he said.
As captain, Ledama urged his teammates to put in the extra effort every game and continuously adjust their gameplay after every point. He believed that this mindset gave them an advantage over their opponents, securing them the win in the matches they played.
“Sinasabi ko lang sa kanila when they play na we need to double our effort and adjust every point,” Ledama shared. “Sobrang nakakatulong sa’min yan kasi nareremind sila during the game para manalo.”
