UST Growling Tigers land Donovan Sevilla for UAAP Season 89

University of Santo Tomas has secured a key addition to its men’s basketball program, as one-and-done prospect Donovan Sevilla has officially committed to the Growling Tigers for UAAP Season 89, according to team manager Eric Ang.

Sevilla’s commitment gives UST a veteran piece as the program continues to strengthen its roster for the year ahead. Known as a steady backcourt presence, Sevilla brings experience, two-way ability, and maturity that could help the Growling Tigers both in the short term and over the course of a demanding UAAP campaign.

A guard with a strong feel for the game, Sevilla built his reputation as a reliable playmaker and defender during his time in the United States collegiate ranks. He has been recognized for his toughness on the ball, his ability to organize an offense, and the discipline he brings on both ends of the floor. Those qualities make him an intriguing addition for a UST side looking to sharpen its identity and return to the Final Four in Season 89.

Before his move to UST, Sevilla played at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, where he developed into one of the team’s most dependable guards. His strong all-around play helped raise his profile and displayed that he could thrive in a structured college system.

Sevilla later continued his career at Sonoma State, adding further experience against a different level of competition. That stretch allowed him to expand his game and continue adjusting to varied roles, whether as a facilitator, perimeter defender, or complementary scorer.

Originally from San Ramon, California, Sevilla is listed at 6-foot-1 and has primarily played as a point guard. His background suggests a player comfortable with responsibility in the backcourt, whether initiating offense, taking care of the ball, or defending opposing guards. For UST, that kind of skill set could be valuable in a league where guard play often shapes the outcome of late-game situations.

Sevilla is represented by Marvin Espiritu of Espiritu-Manotoc Basketball Management.

While it remains to be seen exactly how Sevilla will fit into the final rotation, his commitment is clearly a significant development for the program. Sevilla already played for the Growling Tigers in the recent pocket tournament held in Agusan. He is also lined up for the team in the Asiabasket NSAC Campus Tour.
