De La Salle-Zobel’s (DLSZ) Kieffer Alas pledges his allegiance to Nike in his junior year of high school. VP Global Management reports on the brand’s acquisition of the 17-year-old last Friday, January 17, 2025, as he suited up in the Nike Kobe 5 Protro “Year of the Mamba Eggplant” in their 79-77 season opener versus the University of the Philippines Integrated School.
A partnership finally established on paper, Alas has always donned the Swoosh’s performance footwear, apparently since first touching a basketball. Throughout his playing years, he has suited up in Nike’s latest footwear such as the Nike Zoom Freak 4 “Greek Coastline,” the Nike Zoom GT Cut 2 “Pearl Pink,” or the Nike LeBron 20 “Miami Heat,” but the Nike Kobe-line remains a long-time favorite.
“I chose Nike because that’s the brand I’ve been and only worn since I was a child. I also fell in love with Kobe’s din, kaya I just couldn’t go away from Nike,” Alas tells ALL-STAR Magazine.
“My favorites are the Kobe 6’s, though I hope to get a pair of KD (Kevin Durant) 4’s. I haven’t worn them in years but they’re so comfy,” he added.
Before returning to the undergraduate stage, the Gilas Pilipinas Youth prospect sustained a sprained ACL injury, hindering his participation in the FIBA Under-17 Basketball World Cup last June 2024. Following his successful recovery, he emerged on the floor with 16 points, 13 rebounds, three assists, one block, one steal, and the victory in his weapon of choice.
