The Ateneo Blue Eagles earned a hard-fought win against the UE Red Warriors, 71-67. Without their big man Precious Momowei, the Jack Santiago-led team managed to close the gap on Ateneo for the second half. However, their efforts fell short of securing their lead.

Despite being a non-bearing game for the Blue Eagles, head coach Tab Baldwin shared that the victory meant more than just fighting for their pride.

“We talked before the game, and I think there is more than just pride to play for. There’s the uniform and trying to live up to the standards that are expected of us by our teammates and by ourselves,” he said.

Throughout the entire match, it was noticeable how much effort Ateneo was putting in. The team had their biggest lead of 15 points and 10 fastbreak points. Andrew Bongo led the team with 15 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists, while Shawn Tuano recorded 13 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists.

Ultimately, Coach Baldwin was proud of the game they played on November 13, Wednesday. He said, “I was just very happy with the team today because they played with so much effort.”

Baldwin also highlighted that they have a lot of respect for their opponents. With that, they treat every game important.

“We don’t want to disrespect our opponent by saying that this game doesn’t matter to us,” said Coach Baldwin.

The Ateneo Blue Eagles’ Jared Bahay and Andrew Bongo also shared that they’re playing the games with all their effort to part ways on a good note with their veterans. Chris Koon and Sean Quitevis will play their last game in the Blue and White uniform against the Adamson Soaring Falcons on November 23.

“At this point, everything is for them. We want to send them out on a good note, on the best note possible,” Bongo said.

“I love Chris and SQ, so I’ll be fighting next game,” said rookie Bahay.
