Phoenix pins hopes on NBA/G League vet BJ Johnson
BJ Johnson, a player who had brief stints playing in multiple NBA teams, will be shoring up the Phoenix Fuel Masters’ roster in the coming PBA Governors’ Cup.
Head coach Charles Tiu made this confirmation to All-Star Magazine in a WhatsApp message.
“He’s already here coming from the US,” wrote Tiu.
Listed 6-foot-7, Johnson had stopovers from different NBA teams like the Orlando Magic, Atlanta Hawks and Sacramento Kings.
He played his only game with the Magic six years ago, but had his best scoring averages with the team during the 2021-2022 season where he averaged 6.5 points while seeing action in four games.
Johnson spent most of the time playing with the Magic’s G League affiliate, Lakeland, averaging 24.7 points and 7.5 rebounds.
But Johnson is one of those players coming from a solid basketball program.
In college, he played for Syracuse and when he barely got the minutes he wanted, he moved to La Salle where he had his finest season, averaging 20.8 points and 8.3 rebounds per game.
Now 30 years old, Johnson spent the last four years playing in Spain and Russia.
