UST Growling Tigers head coach Pido Jarencio thanked new assistant coach Juno Sauler and his veteran staff for helping their team bag an impressive debut win in UAAP Season 87.
The Growling Tigers defeated the UE Red Warriors in a 70-55 game on Sunday, September 8. Of course, the players could not have done it without the game plan provided by their talented coaches on the bench.
Coach Pido Jarencio shared that their win is all thanks to everyone’s effort, “First of all, this is a team effort from the management, coaches, players.”
“Credit to the coaches [for] the game plan, everything.” he said during the post-game interview. He enumerated and gave credit to all of the coaches contributing to UST’s great start, starting with former DLSU coaching staff Juno Sauler.
Coach Juno was the head of the DLSU Green Archers coaching staff in 2013 which led to a championship. Most are curious as to what his addition to the UST Growling Tigers might look like–so far, it’s off to a good start.
Coach Pido has already said that Coach Juno will be a valuable addition to their team because of his experience, which offers different angles and viewpoints.
When asked about what his role has been for the team, Coach Juno said, “To help each player be the best of themselves [and] to support what the coaching staff needs.”
“Whatever my role is, how I can help, telling the person what to do, supporting the coaching staff, and just say what they need,” he added in regard to how he contributed to UST’s first win. He seeks to do it all again for the next few games.
Coach Pido admitted that he is looking forward to the long season, but affirmed that they are ready.
“Matagal na preparasyon namin, kaya we’re ready. Mahabang season ‘to, pero for sure with the coaches that I have, we’ll be ready.”
Forthsky Padrigao had a heck of a debut with the UST Growling Tigers. All eyes are definitely on him as their next match is against his former team, the Ateneo Blue Eagles.
