Daniel Padilla, a bright prospect from the Letran Squires, has officially committed to MAPUA University and will suit up for the Cardinals in NCAA Season 102.
Padilla, who recently made headlines with a career-high 39-point performance against San Sebastian in NCAA Season 100, confirmed that he will be completing his Grade 12 education at MAPUA before becoming eligible to play in the college division. As per league rules, he will sit out Season 101 and make his college debut in 2026.
“Magandang school po yung Mapua eh,” Padilla told me in an exclusive interview. “Thank you po pala kay Coach Randy sa binigay na opportunity saakin. Sa tingin ko naman mag-iimprove ako dito kasi sa trainings andyan naman mga nilolook up ko na players like Clint Escamis and Cyril Gonzales. Marami ako matutotonan sa kanila.”
Padilla’s commitment marks a significant pickup for the Cardinals. The dynamic guard emerged as one of the top scorers in the juniors division this year, combining aggressive slashing, perimeter shooting, and hustle on both ends of the floor. He was a cornerstone for Letran’s competitive campaign, and his development has drawn attention from scouts and coaches.
Padilla also considered joining the UP Fighting Maroons but ultimately landed with the Cardinals.
Now with MAPUA, Padilla will train alongside established names like Escamis and Gonzales – two of the league’s premier talents – and will have a full year to acclimate to the system and college-level intensity.
From being a standout in the juniors division to preparing for the college stage, Padilla is taking the next step in his basketball journe and he’s doing it with confidence in his path.
