Fil-Canadian Gab Obusan Transfers to Adamson Soaring Falcons
Fil-Canadian guard Gabriel “Gab” Obusan has confirmed his move to the Adamson University Soaring Falcons, ending a brief stint with the UE Red Warriors without ever playing a UAAP game.
In an exclusive statement, the 6-foot-4 wing cited the opportunity to flourish under head coach Nash Racela’s system as the driving force behind his decision.
“I moved because I felt as if I had a better opportunity to showcase my talent under Coach Nash’s system. The coaching staff at Adamson welcomed me with open arms and made me feel like I was already a part of their family. UE is a great program under a great coaching staff (under new head coach Chris Gavina) but I felt my development and exposure there was limited,” Obusan said.
Racela is no stranger to success in college basketball, having led FEU to their last men’s basketball title in 2015 and Adamson to the Final Four twice since he took over the team.
The 20-year-old Obusan, who first made headlines at the 2023 Smart-NBTC Nationals averaging 13.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1 steal per game, has taken a winding road through Philippine college basketball.
In March 2023, he committed to the University of Santo Tomas under Coach Pido Jarencio, but later returned to Canada to pursue studies at Georgian College. In March 2024, he announced his commitment to the UE Red Warriors, set to play after a year of residency. By August 2025, he confirmed his transfer to Adamson.
Because he enrolled at UE last school year, Obusan will undergo another one-year residency before suiting up, leaving him three years of UAAP eligibility.
“Yes, I will do 1 more year of residency since I enrolled to UE last school year, but I will still have 3 years of eligibility because I have not played UAAP yet,” he explained.
Obusan expressed excitement about the chance to contribute to Adamson’s push for UAAP contention and to grow into a professional-caliber player.
“I hope to be a part of a winning program and make an impact for the school. Hopefully create a legacy for the school to cherish and overall build myself to get to my ultimate goal to play professionally.”
The Soaring Falcons, who have consistently been in Final Four conversations in recent seasons, will now have another athletic and versatile guard in their pipeline—one who has the size, shooting touch, and court vision to make an impact when his turn comes.
For now, Obusan will bide his time in residency, but his arrival signals Adamson’s continued commitment to building a competitive, future-ready roster.
