La Salle prevails in finals rematch, hands UP’s first loss

The De La Salle Green Archers handed the UP Fighting Maroons its first defeat in UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball to a 68-56 of FINAL on Sunday, October 6, at the Mall of Asia Arena.

DLSU went ahead by as much as 20 in the first half against the JD Cagulangan-less Fighting Maroons but UP tied the game in the third period.

Big shots from the likes of Kevin Quiambao, JC Macalalag, and Josh David gave DLSU the separation it needed in the final period, paving the way for DLSU’s fourth victory against UP in their last five UAAP battles.

DLSU ended the first round ahead of the league standings at 6-1 with UP right behind them having the same record.

Quiambao led the way with 20 points and 10 boards while Josh David had 14 points and 7 rebounds. DLSU shot 11/24 from downtown and limited UP to 33% shooting.

Harold Alarcon led UP with 19 points on 50% shooting.
