Rain or Shine is locking in one of its rising stars. Mike Malonzo has signed a three-year contract extension with the Elasto Painters, a deal that keeps him with the team until the end of the 2028 PBA season.

The extension was confirmed exclusively to us by Malonzo’s agent, Edgar Mangahas of EM Sports Management.

“This is where Mike wants to be,” said Mangahas. “Rain or Shine believed in him from the start, and he’s excited to keep building with the team.”

Malonzo, 25, was originally drafted 16th overall in the second round of the 2024 PBA Draft by Rain or Shine. A product of National University, he made his mark in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) with the San Juan Knights before jumping to the pros. He was named MPBL Player of the Week in early August 2024, and his strong performances caught the attention of PBA scouts.

The 6-foot-2 wingman officially joined Rain or Shine in late 2024 and made his PBA debut on April 12, 2025, against NLEX. In that game, he logged 5 points, 3 rebounds, a block, and a steal in 19 minutes—an efficient showing that hinted at his potential.

Malonzo is known for his high-flying athleticism, highlighted by a 51-inch vertical leap measured during the 2024 PBA Draft Combine. His ability to play both shooting guard and small forward gives coach Yeng Guiao flexibility on both ends of the court.

With this extension, Rain or Shine signals its commitment to building a younger, more athletic core. Malonzo, still early in his career, is expected to play a larger role as the team continues its rebuild.

The terms of the contract were not disclosed, but sources say the deal includes performance-based incentives and a team option in the final year.
