Mapua Cardinals recruit shooter Andre Macaranas

The Mapua Cardinals have recruited Andre Macaranas from New Jersey to bolster their talent pool in the NCAA men’s basketball division, according to his representation Fil-Nation Select.

Macaranas will undergo residency in 2024 as a transferee from FDU-Florham and will play out his remaining three years of eligibility as a Cardinal beginning S101 of the NCAA next year.

He is a 6-foot guard who’s a decent shooter from downtown. Macaranas averaged just 2.7 points a contest in his final year with FDU-Florham but knocked down 37% of his attempts from long range. With expanded minutes in the NCAA, he could become a reliable contributor to a Final Four hopeful.

Macaranas has also gotten a taste of Philippine basketball already as he played for Fil-Am Nation’s NBTC team which made the finals of the Manila Live tournament.

Joining the Cardinals is something of a homecoming for Andre as noth his Filipinos parents are Mapua graduates.

He is the latest in an impressive offseason recruit out of the Fil-Nation developmental program, joining the likes of Zain Mahmood, Jayden Jones, Jacob Bayla, and Alex Konov, among others.
