Palanca Expected to Join UP Maroons After NU De-commitment
Miguel Palanca, one of the most promising big men of his high school class, is now expected to suit up for the UP Fighting Maroons in UAAP Season 88 after de-committing from the NU Bulldogs, according to a source.
The 6-foot-7 forward-center had previously committed to National University in March 2025, following a strong campaign with NU-Nazareth School (Bullpups), where he posted averages of 10.2 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks on an efficient 57% shooting from the field. His length, mobility, and emerging perimeter game drew early comparisons to elite homegrown frontcourt talent.
Now, with five full years of collegiate eligibility ahead of him, Palanca is poised to bolster an already deep UP frontcourt as the Fighting Maroons continue to reload for another title run. The move instantly upgrades UP’s size and upside down low, while also shifting the UAAP recruitment landscape.

Palanca recently turned heads in the Pinoyliga high school tournament, where he posted 11.6 points and 4.4 rebounds per game, while shooting a blistering 51% from three. His combination of post scoring, floor spacing, and rim protection makes him one of the more complete bigs entering the college level this year.
Social media buzz has followed him since early 2025, with viral TikTok highlights showcasing his two-way potential. A recent exhibition video even captured his matchup with US-based Fil-Am guard Edryn Morales, further cementing Palanca’s status as a rising name to watch.
This latest development also marks a significant recruiting win for the UP program, which continues to attract top-tier talent.
UAAP Season 88 will mark the official beginning of Palanca’s collegiate career — and with it, the next chapter in his career.
