Robinsons Retail reiterates commitment to Fighting Maroons on 15th year

Press Release

The UP Men’s Basketball Team (UPMBT) may have found their ‘forever’ with Robina Gokongwei-Pe and the Robinsons Retail Holdings Inc. (RRHI).

The multi-format retail giant – through its banner brands Robinsons Supermarket, Handyman, Robinsons Appliances, Daiso, and TGP – has renewed its partnership with the UP Fighting Maroons for the 15th straight year.

The Robinsons group signed a Memorandum of Agreement with University of the Philippines and UP Men’s Basketball team on September 4, Wednesday, at the UP Executive House in Diliman. Present at the signing ceremony were RRHI president and CEO Robina Gokongwei-Pe, UP Office for Athletics and Sports Development (UP OASD) director Bo Perasol, UPMBT coach Goldwin Monteverde, and nowheretogobutUP chairman Jed Eva. UP President Atty. Angelo Jimenez and RRHI COO Stanley Co witnessed the signing.

On our first year in 2010, the team delivered zero wins. In 2013, it was zero-14 again.  But like the team, we never gave up. After years of hoping, dreaming, and working hard, we finally brought home the crown back to Diliman. Through these ups and downs we are still here, fighting and believing. It has been a fulfilling 15 years,” said Robina Gokongwei-Pe.

“To put things in perspective, when Ma’am Robina first started supporting the team, our players now may have probably started to touch a basketball. That’s how long we have had Ma’am Robina and Robinsons as believers and supporters of our program. That’s why there are no words for how grateful we are to Ma’am Robina, Sir Stanley, Sir Wilfred, and Robinsons Retail for believing in us and being with us in every game on and off the court, win or lose,” Perasol said.

UPMBT manager Atty. Agaton Uvero emphasized the impact of Gokongwei-Pe’s support to the team. “More than the financial support, what we are really thankful for is how Ma’am Robina and the Robinsons family have embraced us and supported us through the years – no matter what the scoreboard and standings show.”

On her 15th year as a major sponsor of the Fighting Maroons, Gokongwei-Pe reiterated her company’s commitment to the team and the UP community.

“This renewed partnership with the Fighting Maroons is a testament to our commitment to foster athletic excellence and giving back to the UP community. Through this partnership, Robinsons Retail hopes to empower young athletes by investing in their potential to excel both on and off the court,” she said.
