Strong Group Athletics Bolsters Roster with Brickman and Abando

Strong Group Athletics continues to make waves in the lead-up to the 2025 Dubai International Basketball Championship, adding two more marquee names to their roster: Jason Brickman and Rhenz Abando.

Brickman, a veteran playmaker with an impressive resume, reunites with Strong Group head coach Charles Tiu. The 33-year-old guard, known for his court vision and ability to run the offense, recently played for the Kaohsiung Aquas in Taiwan’s T1 League. He now returns to a familiar system under Tiu, with whom he has won multiple championships.

“I’m thrilled to be working with Jason again,” Tiu shared to ALL-STAR. “I’ve won a couple of championships with him, and I love coaching him. Been trying to get him back for a while.”

Brickman’s experience as a floor general will complement a loaded Strong Group lineup that already features former NBA All-Star DeMarcus Cousins, Andray Blatche, Dave Ildefonso, Angelo Kouame, and Allen Liwag. With Brickman orchestrating the offense, the team gains an additional layer of playmaking and leadership crucial for high-pressure international games.

Also joining the team is Rhenz Abando, one of the Philippines’ most explosive and athletic players. Recently making waves in the KBL, Abando’s addition adds a dynamic scoring punch and defensive presence to the Strong Group. The 26-year-old is eager to seize this opportunity after a challenging stint in the 2024 William Jones Cup, where injuries limited his performance.

“I’m thankful for the chance that Rhenz is still available this time,” said Tiu. “His Jones Cup stint was marred by injuries in practice and even in the games, from his knee and his thumb. But hopefully, he gets better this time around.”

Abando’s versatility on both ends of the floor could be pivotal for Strong Group as they prepare to face elite competition in Dubai. Known for his high-flying dunks and ability to knock down jumpers, he brings a winning mentality to a squad aiming to claim the championship.

With the additions of Brickman and Abando, the Strong Group solidifies itself as a top contender for the Dubai Basketball Championship. The team’s mix of NBA-caliber talent, experienced international players, and promising Filipino stars makes it a formidable lineup poised to make a deep run in the tournament.

SGA also attempted to recruit La Salle’s Michael Phillips, who declined as he’s currently in the United States, and Mason Amos, who wasn’t permitted by DLSU.
