Topex: coaching Gilas Youth an honor, but focus is La Salle, studies
DLSU Green Archers head coach Topex Robinson says coaching the national Gilas Youth team would be an honor and a blessing, but his current focus is on coaching La Salle’s men’s basketball team and pursuing his studies at the university.
The 49-year-old mentor confirmed there is no official offer nor interest from the national team program yet about succeeding Josh Reyes, who recently stepped down, and it’s not something that’s a significant thought in his mind.
“I only heard it from you now,” he said in response to a question from the press following DLSU’s win against FEU. “Again, my priority now is just La Salle. I’m really having a hard time mixing basketball and studying, so I don’t know how it’s going to happen. But it’s an honor, I mean, if the game’s considered and if there’s any way I can support.”

Robinson is a second-year student at DLSU. He previously mentioned that taking undergraduate classes at the university is a way to walk the talk to his players in terms of academic responsibilities.
His Green Archers are currently 4-1 in the UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball elimination round, but not before the winless Tamaraws put up a strong challenge against them in the fourth quarter of their recent game.
“Right now, the focus is getting this season going and getting our second term [at university] going. But, again, it’s an honor and it’s really a blessing if ever it’s gonna happen,” Robinson said.
Reyes held the post of Gilas Youth head coach from 2018-2024.
