De La Salle University head coach Topex Robinson says he looks forward to what his team can learn in their upcoming rematch against the UP Fighting Maroons.
Speaking after La Salle’s dominant win against UST on September 29, the Green Archers improved to a 5-1 record in the elimination round of the UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball tournament. The team they beat in last season’s finals matchup – University of the Philippines – currently has an undefeated 4-0 standing.
“We are excited. UP is going to be somebody we’re going to learn from. We never really called them our enemy. We always call them as our worthy rivals because their strength is our weakness. We just want to enjoy playing against that mighty team,” Robinson said.
The game is scheduled for Sunday, October 6, at the Mall of Asia Arena.
“It’s something I’m sure everybody will talk about, but para saamin, we’re going to learn from them – that’s for sure. I know it’s really going to be something that all of you guys are excited about. Kami rin po, excited kami makalaban ang UP, because ang sarap ng feeling.”
DLSU had arguably its most impressive of the season by rallying from an early 18-8 hole to defeat UST by 21, 88-67. It was a team effort from the reigning champs who got contributions from players in addition to Kevin Quiambao and Mike Phillips.
“There’s no guarantee of when we’re going to face them again,” Robinson said about the Fighting Maroons. “We just want to enjoy it. We just want to compete.”
A competitive matchup it is expected to be.
