Do you believe in the out of the ordinary on a Sunday?
The UE Red Warriors scored the most impressive win of UAAP Season 87 by defeating the DLSU Green Archers, 75-71, on Sunday, September 22, at the MOA Arena.
University of the East, now 2-2 in the standings, started the game on fire, cruising to a 28-11 lead after one quarter. Though La Salle made numerous comeback attempts, the Red Warriors stayed hot and motivated, and eventually nailed the momentous victory.
La Salle had a chance to tie the game in the final seconds after reigning MVP Kevin Quiambao was fouled, but he went on to miss two free throws. UE, which nearly blew an 11-point lead with under four minutes to go, secured the victory when John Abate nailed the game-sealing free throws.
Abate finished with 20 points, 6-7 FGs, 3-3 3PT, 5-6 FT, and 5 rebounds. UE shot 14/32 (44%) from downtown. DLSU shot only 2/16 (12.5%) from deep plus 19/35 (54%) from the FT line.
