UST’s Carl Manding Joins Ateneo Blue Eagles

Carl Manding, one of the top prospects from the UST Tiger Cubs, has committed to Ateneo de Manila University, officially joining the Blue Eagles under head coach Tab Baldwin. The 6-foot-3 wing was a key figure in UST’s UAAP Season 87 juniors championship run, but he’s now set to continue his basketball journey in Katipunan.

“It was a tough decision to make because UST has been home to me and we won the Season 87 juniors basketball championship there,” Manding said. “I just felt like I need to challenge myself outside of my comfort zone to grow more as an athlete and as a person.”

“I am committing to Ateneo de Manila University and will be playing for the Blue Eagles under Coach Tab Baldwin,” he added. “I feel like I can thrive and maximize my growth there, and am excited to learn under Coach Tab.”

Manding had initially considered staying in España and suit up for the UST Growling Tigers alongside fellow juniors standouts Koji Buenaflor and Charles Bucsit. Manding attracted interest from multiple UAAP and NCAA programs before ultimately choosing Ateneo.

Manding is eligible for five seasons beginning Season 88.

In his final season with the Tiger Cubs, Manding averaged 8.53 points and 5.0 rebounds per game, playing a crucial role in securing UST’s first boys’ basketball title in 24 years. His experience with the Gilas Pilipinas Youth program also adds to his resume as one of the most promising wings in his class.

By joining Ateneo, Manding enters a system known for elite player development, tactical discipline, and consistent title contention. With five years of eligibility ahead, he’ll have the opportunity to grow under a program that has produced several UAAP champions and professional-level talent.

Manding’s move is both bold and calculated—a clear sign that he’s chasing growth, not comfort. And under Baldwin’s guidance, he’ll get every chance to level up.
