Ethan Galang’s college basketball career came to an end when the UE Red Warriors bowed out in a do-or-die playoff against Adamson for the last UAAP Final Four berth. Though his UAAP journey was short-lived, Galang’s ambition and determination to grow as a player remain as steadfast as ever.

The two-and-through recruit from the United States has long dreamed of playing in the PBA. While he acknowledges there’s still a lot to learn, Galang is ready to embrace the grind.

“It’s always been my dream to be in the PBA,” he shared. “My coaches back home, they know it’s always been a dream. I feel like as of now, I’m still getting there. There’s still more to learn. But now it’s just hard work.”

Galang’s stint with UE showcased his potential. He became a reliable contributor for a team striving to re-establish its competitive footing. Still, as Galang reflected on his final college season, he recognized areas for improvement, particularly in his shooting and overall pace.

“Pace. I need to change up my pace,” Galang admitted. “Lately, I know my shots have been pretty off. So now, back to the drawing board, back to the gym, getting my body right. Just work on my skills.”

Finding the Path Forward

With his collegiate chapter behind him, Galang is exploring his next steps. While the PBA remains his ultimate goal, he sees the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) as a practical next step for his career.

“Yeah, I mean I love being around Philippine basketball,” he said. “And MPBL is all year round, and from the routes that I’ve seen other guys take, I think that MPBL’s probably one of the best ways to go.”

The MPBL and PSL have become fertile ground for rising stars and players looking to develop their skills in a competitive environment. These leagues also serve as stepping stones for athletes aspiring to reach the PBA, offering them exposure and experience against high-level talent.

For Galang, the road ahead will demand perseverance. The basketball dream he’s chased since his formative days still burns brightly, but the journey will be paved with challenges. His time with the Red Warriors has already equipped him with the mental toughness needed to thrive in the face of adversity.

“Just work on my skills,” Galang reiterated, a statement that reflects his commitment to progress. If his work ethic matches his aspirations, Ethan Galang could soon turn his PBA dream into reality.
