Former Cardinal Joaquin Garcia Joins Abra Weavers in MPBL
Joaquin “Joaqui” Garcia, son of former Mapúa University coach Yong Garcia, has embarked on a new chapter in his basketball career by joining the Abra Weavers in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL). This move reunites him with his father, who currently serves as the head coach of the Weavers.
Garcia played a pivotal role in the Mapúa Cardinals’ recent successes. He was part of the team’s finals appearance during NCAA Season 97, where they finished as runners-up. After sitting out Season 99 due to injury, Garcia made a significant comeback in Season 100, contributing to Mapúa’s championship victory – their first in 33 years.
The decision to join the Abra Weavers marks a significant transition for Garcia as he steps into the professional arena. Under the mentorship of his father, Coach Yong Garcia, he aims to bring his collegiate experience and skills to bolster the team’s performance in the upcoming MPBL season.
Abra Weavers’ Strengthened Roster
The Abra Weavers have made significant roster enhancements in preparation for the upcoming MPBL season. Alongside Joaquin Garcia, the team has acquired several notable players:
Mark Yee: A seasoned forward with extensive experience in various Philippine basketball leagues, Yee brings leadership and versatility to the Weavers.
Raven Gonzales: Known for his inside prowess, Gonzales adds depth to the team’s frontcourt.
Joshua David: Transitioning from a successful stint with De La Salle University, David is set to inject youthful energy and playmaking into the team’s lineup.
CJ Austria: Another former De La Salle standout, Austria’s versatility and defensive tenacity are anticipated to be key assets for the Weavers.
Encho Serrano: An all-star acquisition from the Pampanga Giant Lanterns, Serrano’s dynamic playmaking abilities are expected to elevate the Weavers’ offensive strategies.
These strategic additions reflect the Weavers’ commitment to building a competitive and cohesive unit capable of making a deep run in the MPBL season.
With Garcia’s integration into a strengthened lineup, the Abra Weavers are setting their sights on a successful MPBL campaign. The synergy between Coach Yong Garcia and his son adds a compelling narrative to the team’s journey, highlighting the blend of experience and fresh talent.
