Panahon Has Come: Jhonas Commits to UP Fighting Maroons

The time has come – literally – for one of the country’s brightest young basketball talents. Jhonas Panahon has officially committed to the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons, signaling a new chapter for his budding basketball career and adding firepower to an already ambitious program.
At just 18 years old, Panahon has racked up an impressive list of achievements across multiple leagues, standing out not just for his skill but for his ability to deliver when it matters most. The 6’1″ forward from Tagudin, Ilocos Sur, is a product of San Beda College-Alabang, where his performance consistently turned heads and helped elevate his teams to contending status.
He enters UP as a rookie with five years playing eligibility.

He was named Finals MVP in the BPBL while playing for United Calaocan, and followed that up with a championship campaign in PRADA with San Beda College-Alabang. With the Red Spartans, he claimed Season MVP honors in the BPBL. In the Junior MPBL, Panahon delivered an impressive season for the San Pedro Spartans, earning both Season MVP and Mythical First Team recognition.
The winning didn’t stop there. He went on to capture the MMBL title with San Beda College-Alabang, again walking away with Finals MVP honors and a spot in the Mythical Five. He also added another championship to his resume with Gallantel in the CBBL.
Panahon is known for his versatility and ability to score under pressure, traits that make him a fit for the Fighting Maroons’ system. His arrival is not just about adding depth to the roster; it’s about raising the ceiling of what UP can achieve.
