Quiambao still leads UAAP MVP race, Bahay spearheads rookies

De La Salle Green Archer Kevin Quiambao is on pace to win back-to-back UAAP men’s basketball MVP awards through the first six games of his Season 87 campaign.

According to local statistician Johann Medina, who shares his work on X, the DLSU junior currently has 86.8 statistical points, just a tad bit below 10 points ahead of the next player on that list, UP’s JD Cagulangan (77), who has led UP to an unblemished 5-0 record in the league standings.

Quiambao’s frontcourt partner, Michael Phillips, is third with 73.5 SPs, helping La Salle get off to a 5-1 showing. FEU big man Mo Konateh is fourth at 65.3 while UE FSA Precious Momowei rounds off the rest of the top 5 with 62.8 SPs.

UST playmaker Forth Padrigao is at sixth place with 55 SPs while DLSU’s Josh David debuts in the top 10 with 54.7 SPs, good for seventh. Quentin Millora-Brown is the next Fighting Maroon on the list with 54.4 SPs at eighth, UST’s Nic Cabañero has 54.2 SPs for ninth, and his teammate Mo Tounkara has 53.8 SPs at tenth.

As it stands, the Mythical Five would be: Quiambao, Cagulangan, Phillips, Konateh, and Padrigao.

Rookie of the Year

Ateneo’s Jared Bahay remains ahead in the race for UAAP Rookie of the Year with 48.8 SPs while FEU’s Veejay Pre is closely behind him at 43.2 SPS. Pre’s longtime teammate JR Pasaol is third at 37.2 while UP’s Jacob Bayla is fourth at 35.4. Completing the top five from the newcomers is DLSU’s Andrei Dungo who has 31 SPs.

Although Konateh of FEU is a rookie, he isn’t considered a “true freshman” because he did a season of residency in 2023.
