The Ateneo Blue Eagles are having a rough start to the UAAP season after dropping to 0-3 following their loss to defending champion La Salle.

Top-scoring player Shawn Tuano impressively put up 18 points, 2 assists, and 6 rebounds despite the losing effort. Nevertheless, his numbers did not stave off the disappointment he felt about the game’s final tally.

“I feel like our team did pretty well. I’m disappointed in myself though. I missed a lot of free throws that could have got us back in the game.”

Tuano missed all of his 6 free throw attempts which was definitely a crucial part of the game, having a 17-29 FT. He also believes that the Blue Eagles lacked cohesion when the game resumed after halftime.

Ateneo trailed only by four, 44-40, following the game’s first two quarters, but was limited to just 4 total points in the entire third period.

“Maybe [we lacked] a little bit of cohesion, but it’s nothing a team can’t fix with practice,” Tuano said. “The team’s going to train hard and practice hard, and we’ll bounce back for sure.”

Head coach Tab Baldwin spoke great of Tuano, and admitted that he liked the 6-foot-3 wingman’s performance in the game against La Salle. However, consistency plays a major role in the games.

“He’s just a good player that’s getting better with experience. He showed flashes last year, and this year, his role is more significant, and he can score. So, l like to see what he’s doing, but we want to see it consistently.”
