The Other Side of Yawi: Grounded By God and Family
“Nagulat ako sa pinagbago ni Yawi,” Dogie told the room full of journalists. “Sobrang laki ng pinagbago niya.”
Dogie and Yawi were teammates in 2020, but their bond went beyond mere colleagues—they were like brothers, along with esports superstars Renejay and H2W0. At the height of their popularity, Yawi, Renejay, and H2W0 were dubbed the “Big Three,” while Dogie played the role of their mentor and big brother.

Since then, much has changed. Off-camera, Tristan Cabrera, aka Yawi, now carries himself differently—calmer, more composed, and noticeably more reserved. He’s a stark contrast to the lively, noisy kid we used to encounter during our visits to his former team, ECHO.
In an interview with ALL-STAR, Yawi candidly admitted to his past arrogance. “Opo, siguro mayabang po ako dati,” he acknowledged. However, he emphasized that those days are behind him. Now, he is focused on sportsmanship and entertainment, leaving behind the brash attitude that once defined him.
Perhaps part of the “entertainment” was when he gyrated in front of Twisted Minds’ Gold Laner, Outplayed, before embracing him. But beyond that, he’s a changed man.

Maturity, for Yawi, is more than just an internal transformation—it reflects in how he leads his team. Now one of the most experienced players in TNC, he has taken on the responsibility of guiding his younger teammates.
“Ang maturity ay yung pag-guide sa kanila,” he explained, referring to how he mentors players like Salvick (Kouzen), who are still relatively new to the professional scene. He ensures that the team maintains discipline and respect, particularly towards their coaches.
“Minsan kasi sa ibang teams, masyadong nagiging komportable sa coaches kaya nakakalimutan nilang irespeto,” he noted.
This level of awareness and leadership showcases just how far he has come from the brash young player he once was.
One of the biggest factors in this transformation? The unwavering guidance of his parents. Throughout his career, his mother and father have continuously kept him grounded, always reminding him of the importance of humility and discipline.

“Palagi po talaga nila ako kinakausap,” he shared. Their constant guidance and wisdom helped him understand the true value of respect—not just in the game but in life as a whole. They stood by him through heartbreaks and setbacks, even offering advice on managing his finances. From his business, Yawi’s Food Hub, to his prized Toyota Fortuner, every major decision he made carried the blessings and guidance of his parents.
Faith Amid a Hectic Career
Despite his demanding schedule as a professional esports player, Yawi has remained deeply connected to his faith. He makes it a point to pray regularly and attend Sunday Mass, even when he was playing as an import in Indonesia.
“Nagdarasal din po talaga ako saka nagsisimba po,” he said, emphasizing how his spiritual life has been a source of strength and guidance throughout his career. In an industry often associated with high-pressure situations and overwhelming competition, his faith has been a stabilizing force, allowing him to remain focused and disciplined.
Yawi is a Transformed Competitor
Yawi has proven that growth in esports goes beyond mechanical skills and strategy. It’s also about building character and having the ability to listen and learn.
TNC is now a stronger team, and many attribute part of their success to Yawi’s presence. But instead of letting this praise feed his ego, he remains focused on doing his part.
“Nakakatuwa lang po kasi may naiaambag po ako sa team,” he humbly stated.
Through faith and family, Yawi has found his balance, both in and out of the game.
