In a surprising turn, De La Salle University forward Alex Konov has decided to leave the Green Archers and return to his hometown of New Jersey. Konov confirmed the news in an exclusive interview, revealing that his departure is scheduled for this week.

“I’m thankful for my time and I appreciate the opportunity for everything here, but my family and I decided to pursue different opportunities,” Konov said. “I have nothing against the coaches or the school.”

The 6-foot-7 Filipino-Bulgarian was one of the key recruits for DLSU in UAAP Season 87. Known for his perimeter shooting and size, Alex had generated excitement among fans and analysts since committing to La Salle last year. He will now pursue college basketball in the United States, although it’s still uncertain where exactly that will be as of this moment.

Despite his early exit, Konov expressed nothing but respect and gratitude toward his teammates.

“I definitely will miss them,” he said.

His departure comes as a shock to the DLSU basketball community.
