In a significant boost to their roster, the National University (NU) Bulldogs have secured a commitment from 6-foot-5 Filipino-Canadian basketball talent Xander Gomez. At 19 years old, Gomez brings five years of playing eligibility, commencing in Season 88 of the UAAP men’s basketball tournament.

Gomez’s decision to join NU comes on the heels of the Bulldogs’ recent recruitment of high-flyer DJ Laconsay from the MCU Supremos. Both players are represented by Ronald Dadivas of Agent D Sports Management.

“We decided to commit to NU to fill in the graduating wingmen of Coach Jeff like Jake Figueroa, Jolo Manansala, and others, after Season 88,” Dadivas stated. He emphasized Gomez’s potential to maximize his playing years and develop with NU’s impressive coaching staff throughout the succeeding UAAP seasons.

Gomez hails from Carman, Manitoba, Canada, with familial roots in Pampanga. While specific high school statistics are currently unavailable, his participation in the upcoming National Basketball Training Center (NBTC) tournament will provide an early glimpse at his potential. The NBTC Wildcard tournament is scheduled for next week.

Following the NBTC tournament, Gomez will return to Canada to finalize personal matters before relocating to the Philippines in late May or early June to commence training with the NU Bulldogs.

This commitment highlights NU’s efforts to bolster their lineup with promising talent, aiming for sustained competitiveness in the UAAP men’s basketball landscape.

The Bulldogs also attained the commitment of their high school standout Miguel Palanca and are in the process of recruiting their other seniors from the Bullpups roster. Just last year they recruited key young players Vince Reyes and Tebol Garcia, who were part of Adamson’s Season 86 high school title-winning team.
