La Salle’s Kevin Quiambao Extends Lead in UAAP MVP Race
De La Salle University’s Kevin Quiambao continues to dominate the UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball MVP race, further extending his lead after DLSU’s victory against Adamson University this past weekend.
According to local statistician Johann Medina, who shares his work on X, Quiambao now boasts 84.1 statistical points (SPs) as of October 19, putting him on track to become the first player since La Salle’s Ben Mbala (2016-2017) to win consecutive MVP awards and the first local since Ateneo’s Kiefer Ravena (2014-2015) to achieve the feat.
Quiambao’s all-around brilliance, with averages of 17.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, 4.6 assists, and 41.3% FG shooting per game, has been the driving force behind DLSU’s impressive 9-1 run so far this season. His consistent play on both ends of the floor has kept the Green Archers in the top tier of the standings as they aim to win back-to-back UAAP titles for the first time since 2001.
Right behind Quiambao is his teammate Michael Phillips, who has tallied 75.1 SPs, showcasing La Salle’s depth and balance in the frontcourt. Despite Phillips’ efforts, the margin between him and Quiambao continues to grow. Following closely is UP’s JD Cagulangan with 73.3 SPs, though Cagulangan has missed some time this season due to a thigh injury.
Rounding out the top five are foreign student-athletes (FSAs) Mo Konateh of FEU, who has 71.56 SPs, and UE’s Precious Momowei, who has accumulated 68.5 SPs. Only one of them can make the Mythical 5 due to league rules for FSAs.
